A consultation is a meeting with a lawyer in which you set out the facts, answer questions and present the documentation you have brought. The lawyer explains the legal framework, what is established and what depends on evidence or on a decision by others. It is for deciding with informed advice — it does not replace generic material on the internet and does not, by itself, create an obligation of mandate beyond the time and fee agreed for that session.
In person or online
The consultation takes place in person in Lourinhã or by videoconference when appropriate to the matter and the client's location. Date, time and format are confirmed after the booking request. There is no appointment without prior booking.
What to include in your request
main subject and purpose of the consultation;
known deadlines (service of documents, notifications, cut-off dates);
parties involved, when relevant for conflict-of-interest checks;
availability for a meeting;
if you represent a company: identification or tax number and your capacity to contact.
What not to send initially
Avoid attaching extensive confidential documentation or full copies of court files in the first email or message. A summary of the matter and an indication of documents available are usually enough to assess a booking request. If there is procedural urgency, state it immediately in the subject line or first line of the message.
Request a consultation appointment
You may request an appointment by email or WhatsApp (the number is the same as the telephone contact). A reply follows after the request is reviewed and according to availability.
This initial contact does not, by itself, create a lawyer–client relationship or replace a consultation. You may also use the contact form for a first message with guided fields.
Common situations
You received a lawyer's letter, court summons or notification and want to understand deadlines and options
You are deciding about divorce, partition, property or debt and want a first reasoned view
You need to prepare or respond to court documents within a deadline
You represent a company and need advice on a contract or breach
You live abroad and have proceedings or assets in Portugal
You are buying property in Portugal as a non-resident and need advice before signing
If the request is purely generic, you may be told that a paid consultation is not appropriate or that another type of contact is better.
Consultation for companies
Companies, directors and creditors may request a consultation to frame debt collection, contract review, response to formal notices, enforcement, insolvency, commercial tenancy, corporate disputes or other decisions requiring documentary analysis.
Sending information does not mean acceptance of a mandate. Before any engagement, conflict-of-interest checks, legal consultation and express acceptance of the mandate may be required.
What happens next
1
Booking request
Use the section «Request a consultation appointment» above (email or WhatsApp), the contact page or telephone. If you know them, indicate periods when you are usually available; date and format (in person in Lourinhã or videoconference, if suitable) are confirmed afterwards.
2
Before the consultation
Bring what you have been asked for or what you consider central. If you are unsure, bring what you have: at the start of the meeting you define what is missing and what is priority.
3
During the consultation
Chronological account, questions from the lawyer and review of documentation brought. Procedural or negotiating options and known risks at that date are indicated. Court outcomes or third-party acceptance are not anticipated.
4
After the consultation
If you want follow-up, fees and scope of the mandate are agreed. Otherwise you leave with the information from the session, without automatic renewal of any duty towards you.
Frequently asked questions
As a rule, yes. The fee and billing method are stated before or at the start of the appointment, according to the applicable policy.
A booking request can be made by those means. For a reasoned view on the case, a consultation meeting is usually required (or, in very specific situations, written analysis expressly agreed).
No. It is for booking or initial contact. A mandate and terms require express agreement afterwards.
State it in your first contact (email, WhatsApp or telephone). Whether an appointment can be arranged in time depends on the diary and the complexity of the case.
